HOW WE RATE

SUSTAINABILITY,
SIMPLIFIED
Our Sustainability Mission encourages businesses to frame decisions in terms of environmental, social, and human impact for the long-term.
Groove uses a 10-point scoring system to rate products. The simple score is backed by a collection of data and sustainability reports from public access databases. We focus on three main categories-- CO2 emissions, total waste production, and fair trade standards. If a product receives a low score, Groove provides higher-scoring comparable alternatives in the same price range.
CO2 EMMISIONS
CO2 is a gas that is one part Carbon and two parts Oxygen. CO2 is important to life because it aids in the process of photosynthesis. However, in excess quantities it can be harmful. Too much CO2 is a large player in global warming and climate change. For Groove, products ranging from 1,000- 5,000 ppm are ranked poorly; products producing 500-1,000 ppm are ranked with slight concern; and products producing less than 500ppm are ranked positively.
TOTAL WASTE IMPACT
The creation, distribution, and disposal of products creates tones of waste across the Earth. Groove’s waste rating aims to consider all waste throughout the lifetime of a product. These factors include, water waste, packing and shipping waste, pollution, unused parts of a product, and how long the product will take to decompose.
FAIR TRADE STANDARDS
For products to be fair trade certified, they must meet international requirements. These requirements include meeting economic, environmental, and social standards. While products can not be partially fair trade certified, Groove does love intermediate fair trade rankings. If a product has some aspects of fair trade certification, it will have a higher ranking than a product with no fair trade requirements. A product that is fair trade certified will be ranked as a ten.

PUBLIC DATABASES AND REPORTS
Groove uses public databases to compile sustainability information, creating smart, eco-driven consumers.
